Titled Remember When, the open day looked back at an era of extremes: a time when the Beatles sang Love Me Do while the Stones couldn't get any satisfaction, peace and love came up against the Vietnam War, and skirts got shorter while men's hair grew.
Sixties music filled the library, flares and mini-skirts were on display and a trivia session tested people's knowledge about events like the moon landing and the assassination of JFK.
The open day followed a similar 1950s themed day held last month. Other Remember When days will be held at Wollongong City Council's libraries over coming months.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said the days were a chance to reflect on when the libraries first opened and the ways they had changed over the years.
"In the sixties if you'd asked in the library for access to the Wi-Fi, to borrow some DVDs or to download an e-book to your e-reader you'd have got some very strange looks," he said.
"What we offer, and how we offer it to our community is very different now to 50 years ago."
