UPDATE 3pm: Ambulance and police crews are trekking through the bush to find the 55-year-old woman, who reportedly slipped on mud and has suffered a fractured ankle.
Ambulance NSW Inspector Norm Rees said emergency crews have found a landing site for a rescue helicopter, which is expected on scene by around 3.15pm.
"We've accessed the path through Clover Hill Road, and used four wheel drive access to gain further down the track," he said.
"Police rescue have started the walk, and we believe we’ve found a shortcut, so should be on scene in 10 minutes."
The woman was walking with another person, but is now understood to be alone as her companion left to meet emergency responders.
EARLIER: An ambulance helicopter is on its way to Macquarie Pass, after a female bushwalker fractured her ankle two kilometres in from the nearest vehicle access.
Emergency services received a call around 2pm to a woman injured in bushland. Paramedics have not yet reached the woman, but she is believed to have fractured her ankle.
The woman's location is reported to be around two kilometres from the nearest road, and the terrain is said to be inaccessible even for a four wheel drive.
Police and ambulance crews are on the scene and meeting near Clover Hill Road, around halfway up the pass.
Ambulance crews were debating abseiling over a cliff to reach the woman, but are instead sending in a ground party to search for the woman while a rescue helicopter rushes to the scene.
