If the elected Shellharbour council was doing the right thing by its ratepayers and constituents, then why would it need secret/secure doorways to exit meetings when the going gets tough (Mercury, July 11)?

This is a so-called democracy; people have a right to question council. This action just shows how offside the council is with the people of the municipality.
Another example of how dysfunctional this council has become. We didn’t have these problems when the administrator was in control.
Steven Thomas, Shellharbour
When we use a broad brush over the big picture regarding the globalisation situation, Tony’s shenanigans can be placed in context.
His language regarding death threats towards us I find hard to digest. There are more Australians killed by domestic violence than by Islamic State.
At some stage Tony will have to look inwards and stop his inflammatory and divisive terminology.
National security should be paramount but poor dialogue is unhelpful.
Dennis Robson, Dapto
The long-suffering residents of our northern suburbs have every right to complain about the substandard internet service that is forced upon them.
The continued fobbing off of their pleas for help to a Communications Minister who goes out of his way to defeat every single effort they make, is a clear example of what Tony Abbott thinks of our region.
When I discovered that the railways were going to build a new underground optical fibre communications network all the way from Sydney to Wollongong, I asked Telstra management at that time to make it a joint effort, and share the costs and resources to provide new services to everyone.
The railway managers envisaged no problems at all with a joint construction project but Telstra wouldn’t have a bar of it.

I can understand Lyn Read’s concerns (Your Say, July 15) re the Figtree intersection however I believe no amount of design compliance will solve her concerns.
Cummins Street in Unanderra has double unbroken lines for a large stretch of it and a stop sign where it meets Coachwood Drive.
I travel this route daily and can assure you that the majority of drivers cross the unbroken lines and fail to stop at the intersection.
No amount of compliance will eliminate the moron mentality.

The global warming elites and green carpetbaggers are demanding even more taxpayer handouts for green power.
They have already helped to force through a law obliging us to make 23per cent of our electricity come from more expensive power sources such as wind and solar.
Now they want cheap loans, supplied by taxpayers. And all the time, they claim that forcing us to use more expensive green power actually saved us money.
This is a hoax and should be called out for what it is.
The more wind and solar power we use instead of cheap coal, the greater the overall cost to us.
