Former state senior champions Brian Harriott and Geoff McGillivray are on opposite sides of the draw heading into Saturday's Illawarra senior pairs semi-finals at Dapto Bowling Club.
McGillivray is the reigning Illawarra and state senior singles champion and is partnering long-time Illawarra representative bowler Ted Clarke in one semi-final against Figgy Bowlo's John Jovcevski and skip Tony Dunn.
Jovcevski and Dunn won four matches last weekend, with a 23-20 win over Dapto Citizens' Max Donovan and Stuart Ellem their toughest game.
McGillivray-Clarke had a first round bye and reached the quarter-finals by beating Dapto Citizens Graham Tootell and skip Warren Haviland 27-10.
In the other semi-final, Harriott, the 2006 Illawarra and NSW senior pairs champion, and his Dapto Citizens partner Fred Thompson take on Figgy Bowlo's Godwin Buhagiar and Richard Humble.
Thompson-Harriott edged out Oak Flats' John Noble and Allan Bramble 19-18 in a memorable quarter-final, while Buhagiar-Humble beat Ian Golding and Ernie Moane (Dapto Citz) 22-12 in their quarter-final.
The senior pairs semi-finals are from 9am this Saturday at Dapto Bowling Club, with the final from 1pm.
In the other Illawarra pairs championships for 2015, Windang have three teams in the president's reserve pairs quarter-finals including Zone 16 president's reserve singles champion Paul Cable, partnering his brother Phil Cable.
The pair take on clubmates, Chris Bradley and Steve Sprod.
Sprod is in vintage form, reaching last month's Illawarra president's reserve singles final.
The other president reserve pairs quarter-finals at Windang Bowling Club on Saturday are Vihn Ong-Wayne Crouch (Albion Park) v Mathew Ritchie-Bob Upton (Kembla Height), plus Brian Vickers-Damian Loone (Kiama) v Nick Mackovski- Simon Lipscomb (Figgy Bowlo) and Woonona's Kevin Cartwright-Ken Sheridan taking on Windang's Doug Allen and Bob Driscoll.
The semi-finals start at 1pm on Saturday with Sunday's final from 9am at Windang BC.
All Zone 16 pairs champions qualify for the State Finals at Ettalong Memorial BC from October 24-31.
