About a dozen police officers are wading through approximately 750 metres of the ‘8 Mile” channel between Leeton and Wamoon, thigh high in mud with shovels, rakes and sticks.
Inspector Tony Reneker from Griffith Local Area Command confirmed the search was part of Strike Force Gundabri’s ongoing investigations. He said it was part of a routine search.
A number of officers attached to the Operations Support Group were deployed to search the drain while it was emptied.
Officers conducted a line search; however nothing was located.
“There are no new developments, no new information,” Inspector Reneker said.
When asked if it was unusual for such a large scale search to be conducted without any new information, he replied it was simply so they could be certain the area had been properly searched.
