Work has been underway on the replacement of the wall for much of this year.
Council says the job should be finished in time for the peak of summer, with work probably winding up by November.
The job will cost $578,115, and it is hoped the refurbishment will add greater strength to the existing wall, and replace rocks that have been eroded by the sea over previous years.
The job is being undertaken by a company called Land and Marine Ocean Engineering Pty Ltd.
One of the unsuccessful tenderers was Specialised Marine Services, the company which was working on the Austinmer ocean pool before it was placed in voluntary liquidation with the job only half done.
To repair the Wombarra pool sea wall, which has ‘‘failed’’ in several places, a new wall is being built in front of the existing structure.
‘‘Council expects the new sea wall to have a life of greater than 50 years,’’ a council spokesman said.
While the work is taking place, access has been blocked to some parts of the area around the pool. But the steps are still open, and people can get to the pool, the beach and the rock shelves to the south.
