Emergency services responded to the crash on Memorial Drive, at the intersection of Towradgi Road, about 5.30am.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said one of the drivers, a 33-year-old woman, was trapped in her vehicle for about 30 minutes.
The woman was treated for injuries to her arms and pelvis before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a serious condition.
‘‘The other driver was not injured, [he] was assessed at the scene and chose not to go to hospital,’’ the spokeswoman said.
Memorial Drive was closed southbound while crews worked to free the woman, with traffic diverted onto Towradgi Road.
The diversion was lifted just before 7am.
