Bomaderry coach Sean Byrne praised his players for their commitment in the 10 point win over Northern Districts and needs the same desire against the Bulldogs.
‘‘It shows when you have 22 blokes playing for each other what you can do,’’ Byrne said after the win over Norths.
‘‘We didn’t dominate any particular facet but just kept turning up and now we have to repeat that effort each week.’’
Bomaderry are fifth but just one win (two points) behind the Bulldogs, Norths and Kiama with the four clubs set to battle it out for three finals spots.
The Bulldogs have suffered back-to-back losses to Norths and Kiama during the university semester break but are back to full strength today.
The Bulldogs want to finish second behind unbeaten Wollongong Lions and earn the finals double chance and can’t afford a loss against a confident Bomo outfit.
Meanwhile, improving Kiama host Norths at Bonaira Oval in a vital clash for both clubs.
Kiama were outstanding in the second half against the Bulldogs booting nine goals to two in a 20-point win.
In contrast Norths have been inconsistent and following a strong win over the Bulldogs a fortnight ago managed just two goals after quarter-time in a poor performance against Bomaderry.
A win for Kiama or Norths would consolidate their final’s hopes and give them impetus to finish top two, but a loss would be a major blow.
Finally, Wollongong Lions will be expected to make it 10 straight wins and head to West Street Oval to take on Nowra Blues.
The unbeaten Lions outclassed Shellharbour last Saturday and look to be getting better with every game under new coach Craig Morrison.
In Sydney AFL, the South Coast Thunder Division One under 19s and Wollongong Saints womens team have the weekend off.
While it has been a tough season for the Saints, the Thunder have won five games including a defining victory against fourth-placed St George last weekend.
South Coast AFL ladder: Wollongong Lions 22, Wollongong Bulldogs 14, Nth Districts 14, Kiama 14, Bomaderry 12, Shellharbour 10, Nowra 10.
