Three Illawarra clubs will play for a state pennant flag but Warilla's Grade 1 demons returned after failing to win their section in the finals at Dapto Citizens Bowling Club.
Warilla's Grade 2 side plus Dapto Citizens in Grade 4 and Windang in Grade 6 all advanced to Monday's state pennants final after winning their section and semi-finals.
A confident Warilla are unbeaten in Grade 2 and after beating Merimbula 61-45 in the semis take on Dundas Sports for the state flag at Cabramatta BC on Monday morning.
In Grade 4 at Nelson Bay, Dapto Citizens thrashed Ganmain 65-39 in their semi and face Asquith for the state flag.
Illawarra Grade 6 champions Windang beat Barraba 61-58 in their semi and meet Manildra in the final at Northmead BC.
In the blue ribbon Grade 1, defending back-to-back champions Taren Point take on giant-killers South Lismore at Dapto Citizens on Monday.
South Lismore upset Merrylands in their semi after clinching their section on countback from fellow two-game winner St Johns Park, by a single shot.
In a stunning final sectional game, South Lismore beat Tuncurry by 51 shots, while St Johns Park lost 57-54 to Port Macquarie City.
Defending champs Taren Point won their section Albion Park BC and beat Ettalong Memorial 54-52, advancing to the final.
Warilla missed the Grade 1 semis for a third successive year, with a first-up 57-53 loss to Merrylands a critical blow.
Warilla thumped Wagga Rules 72-50 in round two, but Merrylands' 85-34 victory over Inverell Easts effectively sealed the section on day one.
With virtually no chance of winning the section, Warilla were beaten 62-56 by Inverell, while Merrylands edged out Wagga Rules 60-59 in round 3.
"We didn't play anywhere near our best," Warilla skip and new Australian Open Singles champion Aaron Teys admitted.
In lower grades results, Illawarra Zone 16 Grade 7 champs Jamberoo won two games but lost the section on countback to Cudgen Leagues at Orange City BC.
Northmead will meet Comboyne in the final.
In Grade 3, Towradgi won one sectional match at Warners Bay, with Lithgow City taking on Cronulla in the final.
In Grade 5 at Dubbo, Dapto Citz won one sectional game, with section winners Wagga Rules to meet Lawson for the title.
