Cries of Opa! will be heard all around the main street of Port Kembla on Saturday, as artists and musicians unite for a celebration of all things Greek.
The community musical celebration that is Jam 'n Bread will again combine with the Red Point Artists' Art on the Grass showcase on August 8.
The festivities start at 10am with Art on the Grass at 100 Wentworth Street, featuring art stalls in the courtyard, open studios, free painting for children and vibrant music from the Curious Rendition Orchestra at 11am.
Red Point Gallery will also present Four Felt Birds, a collection of original and innovative felt works by the Illawarra Felters Group. A guided art trail along Wentworth Street will start at 11am from Red Point's office, visiting galleries and studios.
Things will heat up at noon, when the Curious Rendition Orchestra leads a musical parade up to Port Kembla Community Centre for Jam 'n Bread to celebrate the cultural richness of Greece. George and Simon from Zorba's Kefi will play and Arthur Rorris will demonstrate his own baglama - a small long-necked plucked string instrument used in Greek music.
"It will be a feast of the senses as we'll be baking Greek olive bread as we jam," Jam 'n Bread co-ordinator Ann Lehmann-Kuit said.
She said Jam 'n Bread and Art on the Grass had been doing things together for the past year. "It's showcasing what's on offer in that stretch of Port Kembla, which is quite fantastic."
Jam 'n Bread is a free music-making get together held on the second Saturday of the month. All ages and abilities are welcome. The popular event recently expanded to Coledale Markets.
