Corrimal now boasts new signs which not only differentiate the town's boundaries, but remind community members and visitors of the rich history and heritage within the town.

Corrimal Chamber of Commerce president Paul Boultwood worked alongside Wollongong City Council to plan the new town signs.

"I'm excited by the new additions," Mr Boultwood said.

"Along with the new mural in Memorial Park and with the draft masterplan now on show, the community of the lower northern suburbs can take pride in their area once again."

The new signs have also been installed just in time for Spring into Corrimal, to be held on September 13.

Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said signage for the village would help to bring a sense of place.

"They also help to begin the ideas of how do we collectively make a town centre that is both liveable and loveable," Councillor Bradbery said.

"How do you create a town centre where people like to visit and stick around?

"The signs help to remind us that the village has a long history."

Cr Bradbery said as part of the council's work on revitalising smaller villages and towns it was currently seeking ideas and comments on the draft Corrimal Town Centre Plan.

"This initiative also helps remind us that Corrimal is a community with a good heart, a good centre, and has strong connections with other villages and towns in the northern suburbs.

"Our draft town centre plan wants to look at avenues to continue this and build this into a place with a distinct identity.

"We encourage all community members to visit our website and comment on the draft plan."

Submissions on the plan close on August 28, with a drop-in session to be held in Corrimal's Memorial Park on August 18 from 9am-4pm.
