Drummer Gordy Forman broke his arm badly after attempting to show their audience how to crowd-surf at a gig in Perth's Amplifier Bar. After seeing a few failed stage-dive attempts during the night from audience members, Forman decided to show the crowd how it was done. Unfortunately, his arm got caught in the front barrier, breaking his humerus bone in two, and he was taken to hospital.
Fans were kept entertained with frontman Jay Whalley taking over bass guitar and bassist Tom Crease picking up the drums. By the end of the evening, the band were already making light of the incident.
Postponed shows on the bands current tour included one at the Wollongong Unibar on August 1 with Totally Unicorn. This has been rescheduled for September 19, with locals Topnovil and The Culture Industry in support.
With Forman still out of action, the band will be joined by fill-in drummer Kye Smith, who has spent 10 years working on the drum parts of Frenzal Rhomb songs with the hope of one day getting the call-up from the band. After submitting countless unsolicited online auditions, Smith was chosen as replacement, showing that hard work and preparation eventually pays off.
