Mrs Sudmalis will meet with Kevin Andrews in the near future for talks about using a high percentage of Australian-made steel in government contracting.
The Liberal MP is also attempting to organise a discussion with the minister for industry and science, Ian Macfarlane.
"I will be putting this as a major priority for myself, just because I couldn't be there [at Wednesday night's community meeting] doesn't mean to say I won't be out there batting for them," Mrs Sudmalis said.
"A number of the [Bluescope] employees would live in Gilmore and, irrespective of that, it's an industry that's got a whole stack of domino-associated industries.
"I know that effect, because it has happened with the paper mill [at Bomaderry] and I'll definitely be pushing to try and get a percentage of it [steel used in government projects]."
Mrs Sudmalis didn't disclose when the meeting would be held, however it is understood to be within weeks.
