Pitched as ‘‘a carnival of music and discovery a little south of Sydney’’ the brand new Fairgrounds festival will be held in Hazelberry Park on December 5.
Organisers Handsome Tours announced the first round of acts on Thursday, revealing US/New Zealand group Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Fleet Foxes drummer turned ironic folk singer Father John Misty and electronic rock duo Ratatat will join the lineup.
Aussie blues singer C.W. Stoneking, veteran US pop group Mercury Rev, LA singer-songwriter Jessica Pratt and Sydney garage band Royal Headache will also play, with more acts to be announced closer to the event.
The music industry welcomed news of the new festival, with Double J raving about the quality of the line up.
"It's very rare that we'd openly endorse every single act announced on a festival bill, but so far there isn't an act announced that we think you should miss," the Triple J spin-off said on Thursday.
"Father John Misty released one of the best albums of 2015 in I Love You, Honeybear and Mercury Rev are one of the truly great psychedelic pop acts of the modern day."
Reminiscent of artsy festivals like Meredith and the now defunct Harvest, laid back Fairgrounds also promises markets, movies and food and wine from Berry’s surrounding farms.
Kids under 12 get in free and can make use of field games and a kids’ area at the family friendly event, while over-18s can make use of the on-site camping.
Early bird tickets are on sale now, so locals wanting to get in on the action are advised to get in quick.
