Held at Woonona Bulli RSL Club, the Australian National Cats Inc (Ancats) All Breeds Cat Show drew a clowder of gorgeous cats, from pedigree pussies to the humble everyday moggy.
Just a few of Bomaderry breeder Joseph Skinner’s 20 Ragdolls were at Sunday’s show, nestled regally on their satin cushions.
Although taking home a ribbon was the ultimate goal, Mr Skinner said owning a loving family pet was the real prize.
‘‘No matter what you go home with, we all go home with the best cat,’’ he said.
Dapto woman Traniel Boorman has been called a crazy cat lady a time or two but doesn’t take offence at the good natured taut.
‘‘I don’t mind it, it’s the truth,’’ she said.
Ms Boorman is the proud human slave to six Burmese cats, a breed she chose for their exceptional personality.
‘‘I just love their temperament and they are such friendly and outgoing cats,’’ she said, while patting enthusiastic smoocher, Bailey.
Surry Hills man Anthony Ginns only joined the cat show scene a short time ago but it quickly became his passion.
‘‘Fifteen months ago I got dragged along to my first show and got hooked straight away, it was just love at first sight,’’ he said.
‘‘The next week I went out and picked up a cat and now I’m waiting to get a show kitten - I want to start at the top so I’m holding out for just the right one.’’
Acting as a steward at Sunday’s event, Mr Ginns is now studying to become a judge and says he has a soft spot for exotic and persian breeds.
The Illawarra show is part of the annual circuit, with breeders collecting challenge points throughout the year.
