The former member of the Four Kinsmen has been in hospital for more than 120 days battling brain cancer and will remain there indefinitely.
But he wants to publicly thank everyone for what they did.
Wilson said he wished he could have done that personally to all 580 people who came to the fundraising night at the Lagoon Restaurant in late July, but that was impossible.
But he wanted everyone to know the continual support had been so encouraging it had helped him stay positive during the last four months.
Wilson said the fundraiser had given him something to look forward to and aim for.
Official figures are now in and the Wollongong community, fans from interstate and members of the entertainment industry helped raise close to $70,000 on the night.
The money has been collected by Entertainment Assist and will be used to help cover Wilson's ongoing medical expenses.
Volunteer on the night Jenny Jones, of the Cancer Council, said $3500 would go to Cure for Cancer.
That was raised from beanie sales on the night.
Fellow member of the Four Kinsmen Scott Radburn and fellow emcee Rikki Organ said it had been wonderful to help Wilson in such a way after George and Andrew Harrison said they wanted to do something to help one of Wollongong's favourite sons.
"People from outside the area were blown away by Wollongong's community spirit," Radburn said. "We really do look after each other in Wollongong."
Radburn said it had been fantastic for the Four Kinsmen to get together with their great mate.
