Mayor Gash said local residents had contacted council concerned that the Bridge would be closing at 4pm.
The Mayor said despite the area receiving significant flood water there was no threat to the bridge, saying it would remain permanently open.
“I am not sure how this rumour started however I can confirm beyond any doubt that the Shoalhaven River Bridge will remain open throughout the day,” Cr Gash said.
“In great news for the Shoalhaven Heads community the river has been opened to the ocean which should see the water levels starting to drop in these areas.”
“Council’s contractor was able to get the tractor onto the beach and open the river to the ocean on the low tide.”
Meanwhile, Department of Primary Industries staff are calling for local residents to donate fodder to affected farmers.
With a number of farmers having lost feed as a result of the flood the DPI is currently looking to source alternate feed sources.
Any residents that can assist with fodder are asked to contact Dairy Australia representative, Greg Duncan on 0477 044 047 or DPI on 0428 626 332.
The DPI has this morning also been in contact with the Shoalhaven Zoo and have confirmed that all animals remain safe and accounted for.
DPI staff are continuing to support the local evacuation centres, work with farmers whose land is underwater and deal with issues relating to fresh water.
