Heathcote MP Lee Evans will take the concerns of those behind the community campaign calling for 100 per cent use of Australian steel to the Treasurer at a 15-minute meeting in her Martin Place office on Tuesday.
The meeting will come a day after federal Industry Minister Ian MacFarlane will be in Wollongong for a crisis meeting with BlueScope.
Mr Evans has been briefed on the issues and will leave a 28-page briefing paper with Ms Berejiklian.
Ian Waters, one of the men who started the community campaign, said the meeting with Ms Berejiklian had been organised by Mr Evans.
"It came out of the blue and it surprised us," Mr Waters admitted.
"But for at least a month beforehand we had been trying to get meetings with Mike Baird on about seven or eight different occasions, without success."
Mr Waters said the meeting was "highly significant" as she was a "key player" when it came to changing procurement policy.
"We're not unrealistic and thinking we'll just walk in there and get a good result," Mr Waters said.
"We're quite realistic that anything to do with what we're asking for will be a major challenge. So we don't think we're going to have any sort of instant success but the fact that she's putting aside the time to talk to us is highly significant."
The talk will centre around the push for 100 per cent Australian steel, both from the perspective of quality and reliability and also the fact that it will help avoid the massive hit the state's economy would take if the steelworks closed.
Mr Waters said the meeting was the latest stage in a continuing campaign.
"We're committed to following this until we get a decent result and until there is some long-term security for the steelworks," Mr Waters said.
