A few weeks ago I rang Wollongong council to ask permission to plant two small trees in my wide front nature strip. The council worker told me that not only did I have permission, but the council would purchase my chosen trees and plant them for me.

True to their word council men arrived this morning with two quite advanced trees and planted them in exactly the right places. I couldn’t be happier.
So thank you Wollongong council. I’ll happily pay my council rates forever after.

Been listening to our Prime Minister and Joe Hockey. Really, do they know where we are going as a nation, because I think they are just treading water until the next election.
After all, what sort of future do our children have to look forward to?
Higher rates of unemployment, higher cost of housing, higher taxes, higher price for healthcare, higher education costs, the list will go on and on.
Reason being, these two just don’t know what to do, where to go, which path to follow.
There you have it, stuck in the doldrums still. No policy to fall back on, never had one really.

The inquiries into corruption in the union movement must go ahead ASAP and then be extended to do the same with all levels of politics in Australia. Anyone found to have broken the law must be prosecuted.
Only when we have people who can be trusted to hold these positions can we then claim to have a democracy and not a lot of con artists proclaiming to represent the workers and the people of this nation. The level of abuse of public money and union fees is a disgusting smear on this nation’s credibility in today’s world.
There is not a single level of government that is above reproach and these people seem to think that it is all right to do this as it is within their rules.
If anyone else did this they would be jailed. It’s time to bring our politicians into this century to end the hypocrisy and embrace democracy.

A few weeks ago Adrian Devlin ridiculed the fly-by of Pluto, saying we should be embracing God rather than such idle pagan pursuits. Having read his current flabbergasting comment that the Abbott government is ‘‘showing positive direction’’ I am under the impression that Mr Devlin has been secretly residing on the dwarf planet.
Though I agree that Labor has showneven less direction in a close-run heat, I suggest that he join the other members of cabinet such as Goofy, Minnie and God himself (Tony) on Pluto for a long-earned rest from the letters page.

I cannot for the love of me work out why a perfectly good cruise ship, which has absolutely everything, would even consider unloading thousands of happy passengers into the vicinity of a steelworks and a coal loader to tour Wollongong for a visit that can have far less to offer than they have on board.
We could offer them an aerial tour of our region in our very own Qantas jumbo jet, or transfer them over to Clive Palmer’s Titanic 2.
This I gotta see.
