The models have been getting tips and rehearsing for several weeks and the first group of 25 will go before a judging panel from midday at the top end of the mall.
If it is raining, the heat will be outside Coles on the bottom level of the new GPT building.
To be eligible to make the heats, each model has had to raise $500 for the Light & Hope Mental Health Clubhouse as part of the Highlights on Mental Health campaign.
After Saturday's heat, the first six finalists will be named.
The same procedure will happen the following Saturday.
The final of Illawarra's Top Model is on October 10.
Event organiser Robyn te Velde said the overall winner would be treated to an all expenses paid trip to Europe, incorporating placement with EU agency Core Model Management.
The six finalists announced this Saturday will get a styling makeover in Wollongong Central during the afternoon, followed by a professional fashion shoot.
