Mr Ward's scathing assessment came after NSW Shadow Treasurer Michael Daley spruiked the opposition's plan to support jobs during a visit to Wollongong on Friday.

"Clearly we have a Labor Party that is only in search of relevance and not results," Mr Ward told the Mercury.

"They talk about committees and talk fests, what we actually need is real action."

Mr Ward said Illawarra Labor MPs had opposed the government's Rebuilding NSW Plan, voted against its plan for the Albion Park Rail bypass, failed to match its $251 million commitment to upgrade Shellharbour Hospital and weren't in favour of its Jobs Action Plan that included payroll tax concessions for small business.

"Every single policy we've tried to bring about in Parliament to reform our economy, to build our economy, Labor have voted against," he said. "This is just smoke and mirrors, it is absolute lip service and I wish if Labor were serious about generating jobs they'd start backing our proposals for investments in the Illawarra."

Opposition spokesman for the Illawarra Ryan Park dismissed Mr Ward's comments.

"We will not engage in this trivial political point scoring when there are hundreds of Illawarra families facing an uncertain time in the lead-up to Christmas and throughout this jobs crisis," Mr Park said.

"My colleagues and I intend on working as hard we can in a co-operative way with the government to support our local community during this difficult economic period.

"The community has every right to expect that of every political leader in this region and I hope Gareth Ward takes a more positive and bipartisan approach going forward."
