The Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance honours the service and sacrifice of fallen Australian police.
The Southern Region contingent, departing Kiama Police Station about 9.30am, is believed the second biggest to take part after Sydney.
The group will travel to a ceremony at the National Police Memorial in Canberra, joining up with different contingents along the way.
Lake Illawarra Inspector Paul Allman said the annual ride had become an important tradition for area police, who have been taking part for five years.
‘‘We should never forget the ones we have lost,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s a tradition that’s bred into us to remember them.’’
About 1800 riders are expected to take part across Australia, with all funds raised to be donated to NSW Police Legacy.
Inspector Allman this year partnered with Trevor Jordan Motorcycle and Frasers Motorcycles to give two learner officers the chance to ride a Harley Davidson Street 500 and a Kawasaki Vulcan 650.
