The Tongarra resident jumped at the invitation to be a guest artist in the exhibition at the Old Court House in Belmore Basin, Wollongong.
As its name implies, seven local artists’ paintings, sculptures, photographs, textiles and prints will feature at the October 3-5 event.
Golab is looking forward to mixing and learning from the other artists.
‘’I’m very happy to be included in the exhibition. I see it as a unique experience to be exhibiting with artists who usually exhibit in other media,’’ she said.
Golab works as a sculptor, mosaic and textile artist. She attends weekly sculpture classes at WEA Wollongong and featured in two of their exhibitions.
Golab is also a member of the Southern Highlands Textile group.
‘’I work in both textiles and clay. My clay work is of sculptural figures inspired by the female form, which are heavily influenced by pencil sketches for sculptures by Picasso,’’ she said.
A trip to Turkey and Macedonia two years ago to study the ancient Roman mosaics and beautiful architecture is influencing Golab’s art work nowadays.
‘’I am attracted by the symbolic nature of the pomegranate, and found it depicted in Roman floor mosaics,’’ she said.
‘’I recreated this image in traditional vitreous tiles which I cut into tiny shapes. This then lead to a series of seven pomegranate images in which I used glass tiles of vibrant colours.
‘’I am now working on hand painting pomegranates onto handmade tiles, which I am incorporating into mosaic pieces.’’
The artist’s future work is inspired by travels closer to home.
‘’My husband and I travelled through the desert areas of South Australia…..and my future work is based on the desert colours and images of the arid zones of Australia.’’
Mary Louise Wyatt, Elspeth McCombe, Mary Wingrave, Elizabeth Muntz, Barrie Voorwinden and Barry Whitelaw will also feature at the eighth annual Seven exhibition.
