There’s no doubt that the club took some big strides in McGregor’s first year in charge but the jury remains out on whether their flying start to the season was an aberration or a sign of things to come.
Having completed a top to bottom review of the season since his side’s heartbreaking a golden-point finals loss to the Bulldogs, McGregor is confident that it’s the latter.
‘‘I think the fans should be excited about next year because of the improvement they saw from 2014 to 2015,’’ McGregor said.
‘‘They’ve got a team now that wants to compete for everything. They’re certainly a group of men that are improving and are at the right age to improve.
‘‘We’re not talking about older players here the average age is around 24 years old.
‘‘They know what to expect from the coach the coach knows what he gets from the players. We’re a year deeper in our education with that.
‘‘I think another preseason is going to be very good for this group and I truly believe the only way is forward for this group.”
McGregor has also made some minor changes to his coaching staff with a view to the 2016 season.
‘‘Benny Hornby won’t do the 20s anymore, he’ll be full-time in first grade along with Dean Young,” he said.
‘‘Ian Millward will be the NSW Cup coach as well as being an assistant in first grade so there’s a few little tweaks in that structure.
