Rinehart project at Shellharbour jobs forum

A jobs forum for Gina Rinehart's Roy Hill iron ore project will be held during the federal government’s Shellharbour jobs and skills expo later this month, Gilmore MP Joanna Gash said.

More than 80 employers and training providers, including Roy Hill representatives, are expected to take part in the expo at Shellharbour City Stadium on September 26.

The event was arranged under a government program targeting unemployment and skills gaps. Mrs Gash said Roy Hill would also host two recruitment information sessions, at 11am and 1pm, in the venue’s function room, after finalising details with her and Liberal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells.

‘‘[If] enough interest is given in attending this forum from the Nowra/South Coast region, I will be chartering a bus to take prospective job seekers to and from the forum,” she said.

The Roy Hill project made headlines in May when the company won approval to use 1700 foreign workers to help build the Pilbara mine in remote Western Australia.

The company has launched a national campaign seeking ‘‘advanced expressions of interest’’.

Most of the project’s 8500 construction jobs won’t be required until next year and will be recruited by project contractors.
