The meeting has been organised by the 2508+ Disconnected group, which was started by Stanwell Park resident Mark McKenzie in June this year after being frustrated with his internet service.

The group’s actions led to Telstra bringing forward work on the Helensburgh and Thirroul exchanges to help address the issue.

David Oliver is part of the campaigning team and he said Telstra representatives will be attending Tuesday’s public meeting at 6.30pm at the Helensburgh Tradies Club.

“This will give customers of Telstra a chance to talk about their personal issues about their own telecommunications problems face to face with a Telstra representative,” Mr Oliver said..

Mr Oliver praised Telstra for “facing up to customers” about this issue.

He said a representative of the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network will also be present.

David and his wife Nicola run a business from their home and several months ago they would have to come into Wollongong to access the internet.

In recent months, he said their situation had improved.

“We’ve had on and off service but on the whole we’ve been okay in our home office in Helensburgh,” he said.

“But that does make me feel extremely selfish because I know loads of other people who are not.”
