Australia's squad of 15, including four uncontracted players, will be entitled to match winning payments of $5400 and a series winning payment of $14,163. The money will go into a contingency fund and be distributed at a later date on a pro rata basis, factoring in the number of series players were squad members for at the end of the 2015-16 year.

Meanwhile, those contracted by Cricket Australia will not receive any immediate compensation for missing the tour match and two Tests.

Usman Khawaja, Cameron Bancroft, Stephen O'Keefe and Andrew Fekete were selected to tour Bangladesh before the series was postponed by Cricket Australia after receiving advice from security officials and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that the risk was too high.

A number of regular Test stars, including Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Johnson, were either rested or set to miss the series due to injury after starring in the West Indies and United Kingdom, meaning the Bangladesh tour was an opportunity for players who might not feature this summer to get some valuable Test experience as well as the financial benefits that come with representing one's country.

A player receives $18,025 per Test overseas even if they do not play and that rises to $21,630 if they are in the starting XI.

For winning a Test overseas, players receive a $5400 bonus, while for an away series win against Bangladesh – who are not in the top four Test playing nations – there would have been a $14,163 top-up on offer for each player in the squad.

That means for uncontracted players like Bancroft and O'Keefe – who stood a genuine chance of playing – they could have made $68,223 for the month-long tour.

Instead, they will be given $5000 compensation, as well a slice of the match and series bonuses at a later date.

The issue of player payments for postponed or cancelled tours is not specifically covered in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Australian Cricketers' Association and CA and will be looked at for the next MoU, which begins in July 2017.

While it is unfortunate not to tour Bangladesh, players can be somewhat satisfied by the compensation from Cricket Australia to go with their state contracts and Matador Cup match payments of $1813 per game.

ACA chief executive Alistair Nicholson said the loss of probable income for Test hopefuls should pale in significance compared to their wellbeing.

"Players fully understand that their safety is unequivocally our No.1 priority and Cricket Australia's as well," Nicholson said. "It's imperative that this is the case and that other factors – be they financial, political or otherwise – are considered separately and always well behind safety in order of importance.

"There's obviously disappointment on a number of levels when a tour such as this one is postponed. Thankfully it happens very rarely but on this occasion the issues were bigger than the game. Our cricketers love to play cricket and love to represent Australia – so they were very much looking forward to the tour."
