While the new coach had development players at his disposal, it was Weeks’ experience in the backcourt which made him an appealing replacement for Rhys Martin.
“We have got two development players in Tony Tolovae and Luke Jamieson but they are three men. We needed another ball handler,” Beveridge said.
“I feel for those young guys because they deserved an opportunity but it is one of those things where you speak to the senior group and they felt we had to go with a ball handler.
“Jarrod suits that quite well because he has been training with us and knows what we are doing and is also a bit older and more experienced as well.”
Weeks has signed on a four match deal which could be extended if Martin fails to cover in time from a knee problem.
