I know it’s strange, but I still miss the Little Creatures Single Batch series. Two or three times a year, the brewery would put out a limited release beer in a pint bottle. It’d be around for a few months and then it would be gone.

There were some fine beers in that series - particularly a fantastic IPA called the Big Dipper. Every now and then on Twitter I hassle them to make it again, but they don’t seem to be paying attention.
Anyway, the reason it’s strange that I miss the Single Batch series is because it didn’t disappear, it was just replaced. With a limited release seasonal beer in six-packs. So the only change is in the container the limited release beer comes in. See, I told you it was strange. I guess I just have a fondness for the heft of those Single Batch pint bottles.
A few months ago Little Creatures rejigged things on the limited-release front and launched the seasonal series with Return of the Dread, which was a revisiting of a Single Batch beer called The Dreadnought (jeez, and I can’t convince them to bring back The Big Dipper).
The Dread was all right but their summer seasonal really hits it out of the park. Well, except for the same. Can’t say I’m a fan of the name Dog Days, even if it is supposed to be a reference to summer.
But you drink the beer and not the name. And the beer is great. The aroma throws citrus and I also picked up some sauvignon blanc-like cut-grass action too. The flavours has some peach in it and ends with a snappy bitterness. It’s a beer that should go well over summer, when you want something with a bit of flavour but not so much that it gets in the way of the refreshment.
Now if only I could convince them about The Big Dipper.
