Ruth Lee, Caitlin Bates, Gianna Cheung, Savannah McDonagh, Hayley Whittaker and Kyam Hunt will find out if they are the one to win trip to Europe next Saturday night.
They will be joined at the event by McKaylah Evens, Lucy Marron, Lillee Francis, Jessica Pinkerton, Coco Cignarella and Filip Maravic who also basked in the spring sunshine in Crown Street Mall at lunchtime on Saturday.
An impressive panel of judges led by Peter Chedwick and CORE Artist Management’s Paul James Hay spent the afternoon working out who the overall winner was as well as the other category winners.
The winner will get to work with Towradgi’s Kirra Jones, 17, who has become a star on the modelling circuit in Europe and North America in recent months after being given her opportunity Mr Hay and Core mid year.
A stage was erected in the mall near where the old Sound Shell used to be for Saturday’s final which was run under the directions of event creator and organiser Robyn te Velde.
Combined the 12 finalists and more than 100 models who entered the inaugural Illawarra’s Top Model competition have raised close to $50,000 for the Light & Hope Mental Health clubhouse in Wollongong.
Professor Frank Deane said enough had already been raised to open the clubhouse for a second day each week.
Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte said it was great to see the public event raise so much awareness about mental health and the importance of being willing to talking about it publicly and taking action.
The Illawarra Mercury is supporting the Highlights on Mental Health fundraising initiative to support the Light & Hope Mental Health Clubhouse in Wollongong with the two online competitions starting this week.
The winner of the Illawarra’s Top Model People’s Choice competition and the Shoot The Model People’s Choice competition will both be announced at the Highlights Ball and Awards Night at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach on October 17.
