It’s what has been fuelling Jay Ford’s strong start to the 2015-16 season.

He continued that form at Kembla Grange with a winning double.

Ford piloted Eagle Stryke (race two) and Eleni Whirl (race three) to victory on Saturday.

The wins took Ford’s tally to 22 for the season, leaving him firmly inside the top-10 for the NSW Premiership in 2015-16.

‘‘I am doing a lot of travelling, getting a lot of rides and riding a lot of winners,’’ Ford said. “It always helps when you are doing a lot of work and a lot of travel if the winners keep coming.

“It gives you that enthusiasm to work harder and keep going on.

‘‘Things are going really well this season.

‘‘I have ridden quite a few to start the season so hopefully that trend continues.’’

Ford used front running rides to secure his winning double.

He shot across from the wide barrier on Eagle Stryke in the Kids Fund Maiden Plate (1200m) to give Kerry Parker his first win of the season at his home track.

Eagle Stryke held out promising John O’Shea trained filly Pursuits and Lauren Davies by more than a length.

‘‘I think the gate speed took the barrier out of the equation,’’ Parker said.

‘‘She jumped that clean and well and that is what I said to Jay just ride her positive. 

‘‘I have always had a nice opinion of her and with those couple of horses in there with some form it was always going to give us a bit of a price.

‘‘She proved to be good enough.’’

Ford repeated the dosage on Eleni Whirl from the outside gate when he defeated his rivals by two lengths in the Akele Kinnas F&M Benchmark 65 Handicap (1200m).

Eleni Whirl kicked away at the top of the straight to beat Loveit, trained by Gai Waterhouse, and Goldophn’s Monogram.

‘‘She has been a bit of a work. She has a bit of attitude but her last two starts have been perfect,’’ Ford said.

‘‘She has presented well in the yard.

“She has been on her best behaviour and she seems to be at her best when she is able to flow along in front and get into a nice rhythm and be left alone.

‘‘Today she was able to give a nice kick up the running and held them quite comfortably in the end.’’

Ford was confident Eleni Whirl could continue to step up following her second win in succession for trainer Joe Pride.

The mare won impressively in maiden company at Wyong last start, but looks capable of making the grade in town.

‘‘I would like to see her just go through the grades,’’ Ford said.

‘‘If she was to step up to mid week level, I think she could be competitive around Canterbury or Warwick Farm.

“I think her style of racing, the short course tracks are really too her liking. When she gets in front she’s always going to give you a kick.’’
