The Bureau of Meteorology says the immediate threat has passed for now, however thunderstorms are still forecast for the region on Monday afternoon and evening.
2.35pm: Illawarra and South Coast residents have been warned damaging winds and large hailstones could be headed our way on Monday afternoon.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology a short time ago.
The Bureau says storms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours.
Storms were detected near Campbelltown and Engadine about 2.25pm. Those storms were heading east.
The forecast for Wollongong is a high chance of showers, most likely during this afternoon and evening, and the chance of a thunderstorm.
A gusty southerly change is expected late afternoon or early evening.
