Mrs Young realised the need from running a bra fitting and mastectomy specialist boutique that has helped many women with post mastectomy prosthesis.
And what she wants to promote is prevention, not her business, so fewer women lose their lives or lose their breasts.
Michelle Matisse thinks the message about early detection and ongoing self examination is so important she took her daughter along.
Mrs Young said close to $10,000 was raised by the many women who attended.
“”It will go towards the purchase of the breast-form teaching aids which have to be continually replaced, printing of our pocket book of BreastAware, marketing material and a projector screen for workshops.
A team of volunteer committee members help BreastAware on its mission to spread the word to women around Australia.
They are Jonni Nicolaou, Francine Bishop, Monique Field, Natasha Pearson, Dr Maria Zuschmann and Joanna Kabuto.
“Sunday’s result will enable us to continue running bi-monthly public workshops free for the community, free workshops in schools and workplaces and to ensure as many woman, young and old, are taught good breast examination techniques to increase early detection of breast changes which could be signs of cancer,’’ Ms Bishop said.
