Now she has taken another significant step in her career, joining the Surfing NSW board. A perennial world title contender, it is her success at a junior level, on the way to joining the international ranks, which attracted her to joining the state body as a board member.
“Surfing NSW has been a part of my career from the beginning,” Fitzgibbons said.
“And (it has) provided an important set of structures and events that have ultimately prepared me for and given me a pathway to compete on the world surfing tour. I look forward to contributing to the future direction of the sport.”
Fitzgibbons bowed out in the quarter finals of the World Surf League event in France, ending her world title hopes.
The 24-year-old replaces former Australian Test cricketer Mike Whitney on the Surfing NSW board.
“For over a decade, I’ve been fortunate to see Sally complete the entire Surfing NSW competitive pathway,” Surfing NSW chief executive Mark Windon said.
“It’s a joy to see her reach the peak of competitive surfing and now be in a position where she’s happy to give back to the sport.”
