Five University of Wollongong staff have been recognised for their contributions to the student university experience with national awards.
Dr Honglin Chen, Professor Fazel Naghdy, Dr Sarah O'Shea, Mr Sasha Nikolic and Dr Laurie Chisholm will be presented with federal Citation Awards at a ceremony at the University of Sydney next week.
The five academics earned the citations for innovative and scholarly work on programs ranging from the teaching of English as a second language to easing the transition to university.
Cunningham MP Sharon Bird offered her congratulations to the UOW winners, who are among 152 university academics and professional staff around Australia recieving citations.
Individuals and teams from 38 universities across Australia received their honours through the Government's Australian Awards for University Teaching program.
“Congratulations are in order to the award winning recipients. They have been recognised for developing innovative programs, including new teaching models, to improve student experiences and learning,” Ms Bird said.
“It is crucial that we have the best teachers in our universities to educate the leaders of tomorrow”.
