A US Open doubles semi-final ranks as his highest career achievement, but returning to the Illawarra to play a professional tournament, starting on November 7, looms as a special moment.
“It has been a lifelong dream for me to play a pro tennis match at Beaton Park on the courts that meant so much to me and were such a huge part of my life”, Fisher said. Fisher was ranked as high as world No 19 in doubles, reaching the US Open semi-finals with American Tripp Phillips in 2006, as well as the quarter-final stage at Wimbledon (2004) and Australian Open (2006).
“A lot of talented juniors have come out of Wollongong, but none have achieved the results or successes that Ashley has,” Beaton Park professional Stuart O’Shannessy said. “The opportunity to watch him play in a professional tournament at Beaton Park is extremely exciting for our juniors, looking to emulate his success.”
