Keira (7-73 and 5-159) went to the top of the table beating Port Kembla (71 and 8-159) at King George Oval, after declarations from both skippers gave both clubs a shot at an outright result.
Port resumed 1-25 and made 8-159, led by Sam Mattas’ 41; while Nick Bell (3-38) and Troy Coleman (3-47) bowled well.
Keira required 158 off 30 overs and made it with an over to spare. Aaron Hickson (64no) starred; supported by Kieran Richards (28) and Doug Murphy (28).
The victory gives Keira an excellent platform for the season, while at Figtree Oval, Helensburgh went close to beating Wests outright after staring at defeat at the start of day two.
The Burgh resumed 5-53 set 139, but a brilliant unbeaten 195-run sixth wicket stand between Marciante (100no) and McCrae (124no) put the visitors (6-277) in sight of an outright win.
Wests were on their knees at 8-92 before Harrison Yates (35no) and Matt Cram (4no) bravely put on an unbroken 39, to ensure the Burgh left with only first innings points. Stephen Bunting took 6-41 for the visitors.
In other games, Dapto took first innings points from Balgownie on day one, with day two a stalemate.
Dapto resumed at 5-176 and with skipper Chris Georgiou (60no) and Richard Marsh (77) in good touch, the visitors declared 6-245.
Bally then batted through the day to finish 6-250, led by skipper Jamie Fleming (89), Shannon Crewdson (54no) and Corbin Brown (35).
Georgiou was rapt with the back-to-back wins over last season’s semi-finalist Uni and premiers Balgownie.
‘‘The batting has been strong and if we’d taken some catches at crucial times we might have won outright,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s been a great couple of weeks and while it doesn’t get any easier with Helensburgh next up, we’re playing with confidence.’’
Meanwhile, Corrimal made it three straight wins with a 95-run victory over Northern Districts.
Corrimal banked 283 on day one thanks to skipper Joe McDevitt’s 137, and dismissed the Butchers for 188 off 89.5 overs on a very slow afternoon’s batting.
Jake Reynolds (47) and Jackson Stewart (44) top-scored, with Xavier Lardner (3-19) and Pat Dillon (3-42) the Cougars trump cards.
At North Dalton Park, Uni’s 9-355 on day one was more than enough to beat Wollongong (167 and 1-66). Spinner Murray Crowe took 5-49, while Sameer Murthy (45) top-scored.
Ladder: Keira 24, Corrimal 21, Burgh 21, Uni 16, Dapto 14, Bally 9, Norths 8, Wests 4, Wollongong 3, Port 2.
