Police say the man interfered with the girl on two separate occasions in 2000, when he was 19 years old.
The assaults allegedly occurred in a home in the Illawarra. The girl’s age at the time has not been disclosed, to protect her identity.
An investigation began more than 15 years later, after police were told of the claims early in 2015.
On October 29, detectives from the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command arrested a 35-year-old man at Lake Illawarra Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a child, and refused bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court that afternoon.
There, he was granted strict conditional bail to next appear on December 9.
