If approved, the Underwood Street plans will replace the council car park with a medical centre and pharmacy complex.
The Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel will meet in Wollongong on Friday afternoon to consider the development.
The council received three submissions about the plans during their exhibition period, which raised concerns about the displacement of public car parking area and fencing of the site.
However, in a report to the panel, staff said the proposed medical centre was “not out of context in the Corrimal Town Centre having considered design elements [and] likely future development in the immediate area”.
They also said it would comply with the council’s draft town centre plan, which is designed to transform Corrimal into a leafy, busy and pedestrian-friendly area.
A number of significant developments have been pitched for the northern suburb in the past year. For instance an Aldi supermarket and childcare centre has been proposed for the town’s derelict former Mitre 10 site.
The Aldi complex, also on Underwood Street, is currently under assessment.
Further, a plan to establish a private hospital specialising in chemotherapy at 20 Underwood Street was approved in September.
The council acquired the proposed medical centre site at 46-50 Underwood site in 2004 with plans to turn it into a public car park.
It sold the land late last year for $3.17 million.
