Quirky animals and colourful abstract designs have popped up on Wollongong Central’s walls over the weekend, as local artists Bafcat and Mikey Freedom used their painting talents to disguise a new construction site in the mall.

The works are part of an evolving installation taking place outside the old David Jones homewares store over the next eight months, as GPT makes way for a mystery “large format fashion store”.
The exhibit is being curated by Wonderwalls mastermind Simon Grant, and will change regularly over the coming months.
Mr Grant said the painted hoardings were an innovative way to enliven the city and hoped they would ”repeatedly amaze and impress shoppers during the next eight months”.
