It is only the second one-day round of the season after last Saturday was washed out and a week of storms has again put the focus on hoping the rain stays away.
Premiership leaders Keira have yet to face a club who made the semi-finals last season but will have to play well against a confident Dapto at Reed Park.
Keira are coming off an outright win over Port Kembla, the first 12 point result of the season, while Dapto have beaten last season’s semi-finalist University and premiers Balgownie and can move into the top four with another victory.
Keira have beaten Wollongong, Norths and Port and have set up their wins with solid bowling, while they smashed 159 off 29 overs in the second innings to claim the outright from Port.
Aaron Hickson (64 no) starred, while Kieren Richards has been solid at the top of the order.
With Dapto batting their way to wins over Uni and Bally it should be a terrific match at Reed Park.
In other games, Uni host Helensburgh in a clash between fourth and third.
Both were beaten semi-finalists last season but are among the contenders again this campaign.
Uni have been the form batting side and made 355 in a dominant win over Wollongong in round three, while the Burgh were in trouble at 5-53 chasing Wests 139.
An unbeaten 195-run sixth wicket stand from Nathan Marciante (100no) and Hayden McCrae (124no) delivered victory for the Burgh.
Wests were then 8-92 before Harrison Yates (35no) and Matt Cram (4no) put on an unbroken 39 to ensure there was no outright loss. Stephen Bunting took 6-41 for the Burgh.
In other round five games, Corrimal (second) want to continue their unbeaten run at home to premiers Bally.
Joe McDevitt’s century was the difference against the Butchers in rd 3, while Bally need to repeat their fine batting effort from the second innings against Port.
Meanwhile, four clubs outside the top four face one another in a critical day for their season.
Northern Districts host Wollongong at Hollymount Oval, while Wests are at home to Port at Figtree Oval.
Finally, Cricket Illawarra advise that with the Illawarra Flames qualifying for the finals of the Regional Bash on Sunday December 6, the T20 round on December 6 has been moved to a double-header on January 9.
The Flames’ last ball win over Newcastle last Sunday means they play Northern Inland Bolters at the SCG, though the SCG Finals remain in some doubt due to major damage of the outfield which forced last week’s NSW versus Victoria Shield game to be abandoned.
Cricket Illawarra is hoping the SCG Finals proceed and wants feedback from clubs over chartering a bus to the ground for the day.
Ladder: Keira 29, Corrimal 24, Burgh 24, Uni 19, Dapto 17, Bally 12, Norths 11, Wests 7, Wollongong 6, Port 5.
