Mitchell stormed to a 6-2, 6-4 victory and is yet to lose a set set.
His march comes after winning his first Challenger tournament in Canberra last week.
The 22-year-old had previously beaten wildcard Max Purcell 6-1, 6-2 and overpowered Mitchell Robins 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round.
Mitchell, a former Wimbledon junior finalist in 2010, has played at the Australian Open twice, most recently losing to James Duckworth in a five-set match in 2013.
