After being part of the Nutri Grain series the past two years, Minogue, who has previously competed for Bulli, was in action for Sydney club Newport on Saturday.
Manly dominated the event, with Jay Furness and Taylar Puskaric completing a double for the northern Sydney beaches club.
“The conditions were pretty good,” Surf Lifesaving Illawarra director of surf sports Keith Caldwell said.
“It was overcast, but North Gong is protected from the southerly and there was a nice little wave to cause a few challenges.
“We had a big roll up and it’s very competitive, when you’re getting entrants from Newcastle all the way to the far south coast.”
Warilla-Barrack Point’s Jack Carberry was seventh while teammate Scott Smith was fifth.
The event also saw one of the stars of the future make her mark, as North Bondi’s Lizzie Welborn took out the under 17 competition. Welborn, who has been included in the elite Nutri-Grain Ironman and woman series, also took out the under 17 board event, with Jemma Smith claiming the ski.
In the boys under 17s, Australian junior representative Callum Lowe-Griffiths won the ironman, board and surf races.
The Sydney Water series has more than 1100 registrations and will continue when Shellharbour hosts the third round on November 28.
The fourth and final round will be held at Thirroul on December 5-6, incorporating the Summer of Surf series expected to involve former Bulli ironman Wes Berg and Shannon Eckstein.
Dane Farrell, who was second in the North Wollongong open ironman, is also a leading contender in the Summer of Surf qualifying series.
The Illawarra and South Coast branches are in the coming days expected to finalise teams for the NSW Inter-branch Championships on December 12 and 13.
In other surf lifesaving competition news, the Austinmer womens crew celebrated success at the Ocean Thunder surf boats event at Dee Why.
