And it has immediately caught the attention of young children like Mabel Robertson and their parents.
Alex Jones, of West Wollongong, said her daughter was immediately captivated they came into Wollongong Central early on Monday and was among the first to see the Christmas transformation.
Mabel was speechless and couldn’t keep her eyes of everything on show in Santa’s Workshop.
“It is a beautiful touch for the kids,” she said.
“She (Mabel) loves all the lights I think. I think this is great.”
There is Christmas music in most displays and one has bubbles that blow every half an hour.
Another has a snow fall that is timed to be 15 minutes apart from the bubbles.
The themed Christmas Window/Shop Front displays are the brainchild of Wollongong Central marketing manager Holly Howell.
She pitched the idea to Illawarra merchandiser Tim Buckley who brought them to life.
The innovative use of vacant shops is inspired by the window displays of Selfridges in London.
The windows will form part of a city-wide treasure hunt that will give six people to win a $500 Christmas shopping spree as part of an Instagram competition.
