The head-on accident happened at high speed, and saw riders thrown off their bicycles, as other cyclists got caught up in the accident.
The Irish Independent reports that the accident could have been a result of the leading group taking a wrong turn, suggesting that they were then sprinting at full speed towards the finish line, in the wrong direction.
Mongolian rider Myagmarsuren Baasankhuu won the race, battling against approximately 1000 other riders, from over 25 other countries and regions.
