Corrimal’s Ryan Hunter turned the tables for the bowlers, with a spectacular career-best 7-17 off 8.5 overs, as the unbeaten Cougars routed Dapto for just 44 in only 17.5 overs in a 160-run thrashing at Reed Park.
Corrimal who were without their skipper Joe McDevitt and his brothers Tom and Xavier also on duty for Illawarra, made 9/204, led by Mitch Jones (44) and Aaron McElhinney (42).
Corrimal leapfrogged Helensburgh into second spot, while leaders Keira also remain unbeaten with a strong batting effort to beat Wollongong at North Dalton Park.
Hunter only returned to cricket this season after not playing for three seasons and was rapt with his day.
‘‘I bowled a good length with some swing and they came out well,’’ he said.
‘‘After being out three seasons it’s good to be back and taking wickets again.’’
At Judy Masters Oval, Murphy belted an unbeaten 103 as Balgownie thumped the previously undefeated Burgh in just 26 overs chasing only 140.
The Burgh innings never got traction with 37 sundries top score.
Aaron Warren took 3-13 and Jason Bunyan 3-9 for Bally, before Murphy hammered the home side to victory.
‘‘I haven’t been able to train much and it was only my second game so it’s great they came out of the middle,’’ said Murphy, who is surely the competition’s most dangerous batsman.
‘‘It’s been a stop-start season so far which hasn’t been easy; but hopefully I can get more games from here on.’’
Meanwhile, at King George Oval, Page carved apart Port Kembla for a second time this season, making 126 to go with his 108 in round one, as the Students posted a winning 279 batting first.
Oliver Sharwood also made 61 for Uni , with Port dismissed for 141 with No 11 Shane Fanning (32) top-scorer.
Paceman Rhys Voysey and spinner Vijay Karthik, who opened the bowling, took three wickets each.
Meanwhile, Northern Districts’ Jake Reynolds made an impressive 86 to lead the Butchers to a strong 47-run win over Wests Illawarra at Figtree Oval.
Norths posted 7/227, with Matthew Cram taking 3-36 for Wests. The home side finished 8/180 (Harrison Yates 38no, Sam Benson 32), with Stuart Prior taking 4-47.
At North Dalton Park, Wollongong posted a competitive 192 against Keira, but Aaron Hickson’s fine 87 for the Lions was the difference in a four wicket win.
Wollongong opener Dylan Treadwell (69) top-scored but Hickson and skipper Mark Johnston (41) ensured Keira stay unbeaten and top of the table.
Ladder: Keira 39, Corrimal 34, Helensburgh 32, Uni 27, Balgownie 22, Dapto 21, Norths 20, Wests 16, Wollongong 10, Port Kembla 7.
