The University of Wollongong’s Professor Colin Murray-Wallace has been nationally recognised for his lifetime contribution to earth sciences. The Australian Academy of Science awarded him with the 2016 Mawson Medal and Lecture in Canberra this week.

The professor’s research has included a focus on the evolution of marginal marine environments in response to climate and sea-level changes over the past 30 years.
“I feel immensely privileged and honoured in receiving this award. It means a lot to me, particularly as my early studies and research in geology were undertaken in the Mawson Laboratories in the University of Adelaide,” Professor Murray-Wallace said.
The annual award commemorates the work of the late geologist and Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.
