But now Wollongong City Council wants to know what residents think of a love locks sculpture planned for Flagstaff Hill.
The sculpture will take the form of a giant set of house keys and is estimated to cost about $130,000.
It is part of a suite of fixes suggested by councillors Ann Martin, Leigh Colacino and Chris Connor in an effort to curb damage from love locks around the city.
In June, Gordon Bradbery labelled the structure “divisive” and said groups who had previously wanted to install memorials at the scenic would be upset. The plans are on display through the council’s website.
