Wollongong will be joined by North Shore, Combined Districts (Lithgow) and Newcastle clubs for the invitational only race featuring some of NSW’s best drivers.
Drivers compete in classes from the age of seven, with each of the four clubs given seven junior and five senior drivers from each class, with drivers and their pit crews coming from as far as Newcastle and Lithgow.
WKRC is expecting over 150 entrants for the weekend, with the winner of each class to be crowned the Metro Zone Champion and each driver competing for the prestigious title of becoming the best club in the NSW metropolitan zone.

The kids representing Wollongong this weekend are Ryan Holbrow, Blake Strode, Luke Heyburgh, Joshua Newman, Bodhi Mortlock and Hayden Muller in Cadet 9; Cody Maynes-Rutty, Joel Strode, Jonathon Marcusson and Shannon Mortlck in Cadet 12.
The Junior National Light/Heavy field will include emerging drivers Riley Macqueen, Finley Hills, Ryan Jenkins, Ryan Mills, Angus Wallace, Casey Cleaver, Benito Montalbano, Joshn Nixon and Nicholas Caruso
Last year’s inaugural Metro Cup was held at Combined Districts Kart Club and was hailed as a huge success and the second biggest kart meeting of the year.
The four clubs have joined forces again to compete this year for this title and WKRC is elated to have been selected as the hosts in the event’s second year.
“We are excited to host the event and look forward to continuing the tradition of the event,” Wollongong Club President Tony Taylor said.
State KA Director for the Metropolitan Zone, Paul Giuntini says Karting NSW fully support the event and was right behind Wollongong hosting one of the biggest events of the year.
The weekend starts with qualifying for each class, on Saturday from 12.30pm, to determine grid positions for three heats.
This is followed by the Pre final on Sunday and the showdown for the finals to crown the Metro Zone Champions and the Champion Metropolitan Club.
Entry is free and everyone is invited to enjoy two great days of racing.
