With the opinion polls showing Malcolm Turnbull increasing his lead over Bill Shorten as preferred PM to an embarrassing level how much longer can the Labor Party continue to support its current “lame duck leader”?

Malcolm Turnbull is not “the new Messiah” as over 60 per cent of people polled apparently believe.
However, he is a very intelligent individual who has successfully “sugar coated” some of the bitter pills peddled by his predecessor and lowered the profile of other proposed inequitable measures in order that upon winning the next election, he can and will claim he has a mandate to consider them further.
Surely the Labor Party has within its parliamentary ranks some one with at least a vestige of the DNA of the original Labor Party flowing in their blood?
An individual with the talent and desire to successfully articulate the principles which made the ALP popular with the Australian electorate; and by doing so, win back government from the LNP.
If not, then with Bill Shorten at its helm the ALP will be guilty of meekly surrendering the fate of the Australian electorate to the whim of the LNP at the next election.

WASTE ON ITS WAY
Back in 2006 APRANSA’s Dr. John Loy, promised a nuclear waste-management plan would have to be written in blood before the new reactor could be commissioned.
A decade after this new reactor was commissioned, anyway, ANSTO has informed Sutherland Shire residents they’re shipping in a load of reprocessed nuclear waste back to their new waste repository at … you guessed it, the original site of its manufacture, Lucas Heights.
Not only do we not need this waste dumped in suburban Sydney, every time it’s moved by ship, through suburban Wollongong, Sutherland Shire or where ever … there’s the potential danger of radiation.

WHERE’S THE OUTCRY?
Attempts to decentralise government services to the country such as the proposed Bathurst, Orange and Albury hubs have in the main been unsuccessful.
The Sydney-centric syndrome with the downgrading of the local tax office, closure of Dapto Tafe and now the loss of the Navy Hydrographic Department continues this trend.
Where is the outcry from our elected representatives?

The only winners are the real estate leasing agents though finding commercial tenants in the current economic climate will present some problems.

A DIFFERENT VIEW
In reply to the editorial "It's time to open our hearts and minds" (Mercury, Wednesday, November 25, 2015), there is no doubt most people would appreciate the photo of the Muslim family and the theme, most Muslims are happy in Australia.
However, multiculturalism certainly isn't the key.
Multiculturalism has been permitted to degrade the core values that underpinned the success Australia enjoyed as a migrant nation once attracting people from diverse cultures who wished to enjoy the freedoms of religion and speech that were once at the core of our national fibre.
Nations that have opted for the soft - left view that all cultures have equal value are now wondering why they have ``no go’’ zones like Belguim's Molenbeek.
We need to wake up.
